KAZA TFCA Aerial Survey 2021-2022

WWF Namibia is seeking to fill a limited term contractual position of Aerial Survey Coordinator for up to two (2) years on behalf of the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA TFCA) Secretariat and Partner States. The position is based in Kasane, Botswana with travel to the other four Partner States of Angola, Nambia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The main purpose of the position is to lead, plan, coordinate and execute the implementation of a coordinated KAZA-wide aerial survey of elephants.  We are looking to hire a committed, technically competent professional and team leader who can work at scale and across political and cultural boundaries.

Background

In April 2019, the KAZA Ministerial Committee approved the KAZA Strategic Planning Framework for the Conservation and Management of Elephants. One of the key objectives of the framework is to maintain and manage the elephant population in KAZA TFCA as one contiguous population. A key strategic activity under this objective is the implementation of synchronised and coordinated aerial surveys to determine numbers and seasonal distributions of elephants and other large herbivores in KAZA TFCA.

The Position

The Aerial Survey Coordinator will be an experienced aerial survey wildlife specialist. S/he will ensure all aerial surveys are effectively and successfully completed according to the survey design and in compliance with CITES MIKE aerial survey standards to produce a relatively precise estimate of elephant numbers in KAZA TFCA, together with their distribution and range. The specialist will supervise, coordinate, and undertake planning, implementation, data analysis and reporting for the aerial survey and census in close collaboration with the KAZA Secretariat and relevant KAZA Partner State focal points in Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.  Oversight will be provided through a technical steering committee.

A competitive remuneration package will be offered to the successful applicant.

Coordenador do Levantamento Aéreo

Levantamento Aéreo do KAZA TFCA 2021-2022

A WWF Namíbia está procurar preencher uma posição contractual de Coordenador de Levantamento Aéreo por  dois (2) anos em nome do Secretariado da Área de Conservação Transfronteiriça do Kavango Zambeze (KAZA TFCA) e dos Estados Parceiros. O posto estara baseado em Kasane, Botswana com viagens para os outros quatro Estados Parceiros de Angola, Nâmbia, Zâmbia e Zimbabwe. O principal objectivo do posto é liderar, planear, coordenar e executar a implementação de um levantamento aéreo de elefantes coordenado em todo o KAZA. Queremos contractar um profissional comprometido e tecnicamente competente um líder de equipe que possa trabalhar em grande escala  além  fronteiras políticas e culturais.

Historial

Em Abril de 2019, o Comitê Ministerial do KAZA aprovou a Estrutura de Planeamento Estratégico do KAZA para a Conservação e Gestão de Elefantes. Um dos principais objectivos da estrutura é manter e gerir a população de elefantes no KAZA TFCA  como uma população contígua. Uma actividade estratégica chave sob este objectivo é a implementação dos levantamentos aéreos sincronizados e coordenados para determinar os números e distribuições sazonais de elefantes e outros grandes herbívoros no KAZA TFCA.

A posição

O Coordenador de Levantamento Aéreo será um experiente especialista em levantamento aéreo da vida selvagem. Ele/Ela irá garantir que todos os levantamentos aéreos sejam concluídos com eficácia e sucesso de acordo com o desenho do levantamento e em conformidade com os padrões de levantamento aéreo CITES MIKE para produzir uma estimativa relativamente precisa do número de elefantes no KAZA TFCA, junto com sua distribuição e alcance. O especialista irá supervisionar, coordenar e realizar o planeamento, implementação, análise de dados e relatórios para o levantamento aéreo e censo em estreita colaboração com o Secretariado do KAZA e pontos focais relevantes dos Estados Parceiros do KAZA em Angola, Botswana, Namíbia, Zâmbia e Zimbábue. A supervisão será fornecida por um comitê técnico de direção.

Um pacote de remuneração competitivo será oferecido ao candidato selecionado.
