In an effort to market and showcase some of the key attractions and activities in the route, the MDTP and MDR are planning a 5-day 4X4 Expedition in a section of the Maloti Drakensberg Transfrontier Conservation Area. The aim of the event is raise awareness of a section of MDTP area that has significant untapped potential, create a cross-border itinerary that links diverse tourism highlights, profile emerging tourism products such as Mehloding Community Trust accommodation facilities (South Africa) and the Thamathu Community Village Homestay initiative (Lesotho), alongside other established tourism products and experiences to create awareness and future demand for this and similar 4x4 itineraries and to encourage tour operators to develop similar innovative itineraries. The expedition, whose main objective is to expose and market key attractions and the 4x4 routes within the Maloti Drakensberg Transfrontier Conservation Area, will start and end in Matatiele. More than ten journalists have confirmed their participation at this expedition.
