KAZA TFCA Governance Meetings Strengthen Regional Conservation and Cooperation

From 8–12 June, the Kavango Zambezi Trans Frontier Conservation Area (KAZA TFCA) Secretariat hosted a series of governance meetings in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, bringing together technical experts, senior government officials and Ministers from the five KAZA Partner States. The engagements comprised the Joint Management Committee (JMC), the 17th Committee of Senior Officials (COSO) and the 16th Ministerial Committee, which form part of the governance framework established under the KAZA Treaty.
The meetings provided an opportunity to assess progress in implementing regional programmes, strengthen collaboration among Partner States, and define strategic priorities for the continued advancement of transboundary conservation, sustainable tourism and community development across the KAZA landscape.
Technical experts, senior government officials, and Ministers considered advancement on key initiatives, including sustainable financing, wildlife protection, natural resource management, transboundary law enforcement, and the development of the KAZA Conservation Strategy and Action Plan, Integrated Development Plan, and the KAZA destination brand. The Ministerial Committee also endorsed audited financial statements, management reports, strategic fundraising opportunities, and progress in implementing Heads of State Summit resolutions.
The meetings also celebrated notable achievements by each Partner State, recognising innovations in conservation, tourism development and community-based natural resource management that continue to strengthen the region's ecological integrity, socio-economic resilience and sustainable development. Collectively, the outcomes reaffirmed the Partner States' shared commitment to the KAZA vision of conserving one of the world's largest transboundary conservation landscapes while promoting economic opportunities through nature-based tourism and regional collaboration.
