SADC TFCA Webinar: SADC Economic Development Corridors and the Ecosystems - Water-Energy-Food (E-WEF) Nexus Approach

Steve Collins
24 November 2025

We will host our last Webinar of the year on Monday November 24th at 14:30 to 16:00 CAT.
Description:
SADC’s regional corridors are proposed as key drivers of trade, industrialization, and value chain integration — central to the SADC Vision 2050 and Africa’s broader agenda under the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA). As climate shocks intensify, the Ecosystems - Water-Energy-Food (E-WEF) Nexus offers an integrated framework to build resilience and promote sustainable growth along these corridors and in TFCAs. TFCA’s as large landscapes with healthy ecosystems at their core are an asset for these economic development corridors but could also be negatively impacted on by them.
This webinar will explore how TFCAs can play a catalytic role in this process — linking rural economies to regional corridors, supporting ecosystem-based adaptation, and unlocking nature-positive investments that enhance both livelihoods and biodiversity.

Key discussion points:
• · How corridor development intersects with TFCA objectives such as improved tourism and market access for a wildlife based economy.
• · Opportunities for TFCAs to attract green and climate finance through corridor-linked initiatives.
• · Strengthening community livelihoods and cross-border cooperation through inclusive value chains.
• · Policy and planning implications for integrating conservation landscapes into regional development corridors and visa versa.

Speakers will be:
1. Dr Chikondi Nsusa -SPO Transport, SADC Secretariate - What and where are the SADC Economic Development Corridors?
2. Dr. Dumisani Mndzebele - Program Officer Water, SADC Secretariate - Outcome of the 11th SADC Multistakeholder Water Dialogue - What does the EWEF Nexus show us?
3. Mr. Colum Zhuwau - TFCA Advisor, SADC Secretariat - What the opportunities and challenges presented by the SADC Economic Development Corridors
