Kgalagadi Management Company (KMC) – African Parks RfP Reference: KMC 26 ESDD KTP Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (Botswana Component) AP is the implementing partner for the EU-funded project between IUCN and the Government of Botswana for the Botswana component of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (KTP) and recently registered the Kgalagadi Management Company (KMC) as the legal entity for AP in Botswana. As a priority activity an Environmental and Social Due Diligence is commissioned.

KTP is a large arid and semi-arid transboundary protected area characterised by extensive dune systems, dry riverbeds (notably the Nossob and Auob river systems), sparse vegetation, and
wildlife adapted to extreme desert conditions. The Botswana component borders South Africa and Namibia and includes environmentally sensitive areas as well as communities and stakeholders with historical, cultural, and livelihood connections to the landscape.

Statement of Need
The purpose of the ESDD is to identify existing, inherited, and potential environmental and social risks, liabilities, and opportunities at the outset of African Parks’ management and to ensure alignment with Botswana legislation, African Parks safeguards, donor expectations, and applicable best practice safeguards.
Kgalagadi Management Company (KMC) hereby invites qualified and experienced consultants to submit Proposals for conducting an Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD) for the Botswana component of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and the adjacent Wildlife Management Areas KD1, KD2, KD12, and KD15. This assignment forms part of the EU funded NaturAfrica Action Grant implemented by IUCN and African Parks. The ESDD will provide an independent, risk based assessment of environmental, social, cultural heritage, human rights, and law enforcement conditions at the outset of African Parks’ management mandate.
